About Jachtwerf Wolvega

We would like to introduce our company and ourselves to you.

Gerto de Boer, owner of Jachtwerf Wolvega, was, as they say, born and raised on the water. In addition, he grew up in the port city of Harlingen, so he was familiar with the water from an early age.

It is not surprising that he ended up in the water sports world. After his education, he started as a ship carpenter, first working for a company in Harlingen. He soon became self-employed and subsequently had a ship carpentry company in Harlingen and later in Heeg.

In 2012 he settled in Wolvega at Jachtwerf Wolvega. This shipyard is located on the Schipsloot, which is connected via the Tjonger to the Tjeukemeer, the largest of the Frisian lakes. In just over an hour you can reach the Frisian lakes or the very beautiful Weerribben nature reserve in Overijssel.

In the first few years, Gerto was also involved in various ship carpentry work and the winter storage of customers' boats at the shipyard. Over the years there has been a shift in work. The real carpentry has faded into the background, but the company has also become more all-round in terms of maintenance work. This applies to both customer boats and our own rental boats.

Because since 2016 he started renting out boats, first with 1 boat and then a boat was added every year because he liked this. This also turned out to be a very nice different branch of water sports! Of course, he cannot do all this alone. Behind the scenes, his wife Martje also works in the company and during the week there are 2 permanent employees. During the sailing season, many employees are present on the boat rental changeover days to receive the customers of the rental boats as best as possible and guide them during the boat rental. And of course to ensure that the boats are neat and well cared for so that customers can enjoy a wonderful boating holiday!

Gerto still likes to sail in his spare time, he has a nice Tjeukemeer cruiser for this, see the photo. We also have our own service boat. This is an old police boat, a Duarry that we can use if someone unexpectedly has a breakdown with one of the (rental) boats.
